The first in our series of garage door maintenance tips is about keeping your garage door moving smoothly.

Lubrication of Your Door

Applying the correct lubricant to your door at the right times is essential.
Up & Over doors require silicone spray or a fine oil lubricant on all moving parts, such as the spring, pivot points on the door arms and tracks.
This ensures smooth movement of the door and protection against the elements.
Grease can be the enemy of the Up & over garage door. It prevents the spindle wheels from rotating, instead allowing them to slide in the tracks. This eventually means that they wear unevenly and a flat spot on one side appears. Eventually they will stop moving all together and the door will not open fully.
Roller Shutter Garage Doors don’t require lubrication in the same way as Up & over doors. They do however have a wheel at the top of the track which can start to squeak in dry weather. Silicone spray is the correct application to prevent this.
Other maintenance tips with the roller shutter include ceiling out the track that the door travels in and keeping the slats themselves clean. If there is a dirt build up on the slats this can lead to scratching and scuffing as the door rolls up on itself.
Seceuroglide have a webbing ban on their roller which provides an extra level of protection against this, as it holds the slats off of themselves and creates a buffer.
